The 50 Shades Issue
So give a single bookworm an erotic novel about BDSM...and what do you get? An obsessive fan.
Let's clear the air here and now. I love this trilogy. Judge me. I don't really care. I'm single...I have needs. And this book fulfilled just about all of them...except for the Christian Grey part. Now I NEED him. ;) Anyway, I know this is such a sensitive subject for so many people and I don't know why. I mean, ready for the hypocrisy?, it's just a book. And this seems to get just such strong and heated reviews. I'm admitting to being a hypocrite, cause I take the reviews so seriously as well. I mean, it's a book...none of it is real and yet I get so pissed reading some of the negativity directed the book.
The part that gets people so fired up is that the novel is centered around a BDSM relationship. Guess what people? IT'S NOT ABUSE! There are people out there who get all hot and bothered (in a good way) over whips and chains. Being controlled is what some people crave and find some sort of sex appeal in it. It's not the right lifestyle for every one, just like this book is not for everyone.
Another thing that I find laughable is just the sheer stupidity of some of these posts. The back of the book clearly labels it as "EROTICA". This means the primary focus of the novel is SEX. And people have the audacity to complain about that in their reviews. Don't like reading porn? Don't buy an erotica novel. Problem solved.
I do chuckle when I see people who read a total of 3 books a year say things like, "the writing was too simple". Compared to what? Oh sorry, you must be reading Shakespeare and Chaucer every morning. Seriously people. E.L James isn't the next literary genius. She is a modern author and honestly doesn't write any worse then James Patterson. It's not meant to be this poetic prose that you lose yourself in. Again, it's SMUT!
In case it wasn't blatantly obvious, I'm intrigued by the BDSM lifestyle. I've read my fair share of erotica, and I just get this rush at reading BDSM. I'm a virgin, so my sexual experiences are limited to the few BJ's given... TMI, I know. But...whatever. The point is, I was looking for insight on this sort of living and the 50 Shades trilogy offered a perspective on just that. It's not about abuse. It's about control and sexual pleasure. He was not raping her. He only did the physical things she agreed to and stopped when she was uncomfortable. Just because the reader's didn't like it doesn't mean they can make such disgusting remarks.
Ranting is what I do. This DUFF has finished her post. Catch y'all later. ;)

Definition: D.U.F.F
What is a D.U.F.F?
Designated Ugly Fat Friend
That's me. 21 year old female, blond hair and blue eyes with a very round middle. Nice legs and huge tits.
I'm a nerd, #nerdgirlproblems. That describes my life in a nutshell, but let's elaborate. I'm a college student studying Secondary Education at Oakland University with a concentration in English. I even am on the English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta as the Secretary.
What I do: Read. Seriously. My nose is BURIED in a book at all times. And I'll read anything I can get my pudgy little hands on. I am an aspiring writer. I've been writing a Comedic Horror story based on the legend of Morrow Road with a friend of mine for the past four years. Maybe some day it'll be good enough to publish?
And now I apparently blog? We'll see. My goal is to post at least once a week to this. Maybe no one will read it...oh well. It's still out there in case someone does stumble upon it.
Other random facts about me... I love rock music. I have this thing for 80's rock, but I still love modern rock. Give me a good guitar riff and I'm there. I also really love Monster Trucks. They are exciting, I get a rush watching them. Scarlet Bandit is my favorite truck. <3 Ah yes, and I love comics/manga. Seriously, I just love that shit. I also have this THING for Batman... specifically the Joker and Bane. LOVE! I also am addicted to anime, like I said...I'm a nerd. ;)
So, I'm a DUFF. This blog will be a weekly update of my life as a DUFF where I hopefully don't whine excessively. Too many failed blog attempts doing that. I can't promise you that I'll be consistent in what I post or even if it will be "clean". I'll just use this as a way to express myself...to write whatever is at the top of my mind. And if you're reading this...then, good for you.
Being a DUFF isn't a failure...it's me accepting myself and changing that which I don't like about myself. I do have a goal to lose weight and, just take better care of myself. But for now...it's the DUFF life for me.
